I miss Sassy

Remember the offbeat days of Sassy when Noxzema ads were so cool and you wanted to buy Cover Girl foundation but you didnt really need to wear it? The days when no one knew who Chloe Sevigny was yet and your favorite show was OBVIOUSLY My So Called Life? Remember when the best soundtrack ever was to The Crow and Courtney Love ruled the earth? I long for the Sassy's that I'd been saving so preciously since middle school and most regrettably left in the hands of my parents (along with the rest of my teen'angster stuff) assuming they would survive house purges and moves. Ill have to do some digging next time I go home to see what dusty memories I can muster.

And then Poof: Patouf
One of our fave blogs Anywho tipped me off to this Swedish (of course) clothing line Patouf. Don't know what the word means but it sure is fun to say and their clothes are so nice to look at. We need some US online retailers... eh hem Shopbop, get this brand asap.

Tony Oursler at Lehmann Maupin
Stumbled upon this gem of a show at Lehmann Maupin's modern, barn-like Chrystie Street location. Artist Tony Oursler makes these mini-sculptures and activates them with tiny video projections. Some even have a very little man climbing through their edges like a worm and all the works in show are about our relationship with technology.

Shoe Du Jour

Ok two things: #1 - I am off to Mexico as we speak, so I am having a conflict of warm weather appropriate shoes versus this cold fall New York day. #2) I think these Ann Demeulemeester knock offs are the perfect compromise of the sandal + boot offspring. I appreciate the fact that while these may not be the real deal, they do a damn good job of the epic structured (and ever so detailed) leather shoe that could be worn in a sea of endless summer outfits or winterized with tights and socks. These caramel beaut's be found over at NeedSupply - another site I loveeee browsing.

Viva Vena Cava

I heart the Vena Cava girls. Two California natives with impeccable taste that matches NYC individuality and spirit. Young, fun, fresh, they have done it all so far. First a capsule collection with Gap, then a Vena Cava for Aqua line over at Bloomies - they even had a short lived collaboration with Via Spiga shoes - totally vibing on the seventies mule meets platform in neutrals and studs - YES ma'am! P.S. they have an equally awesome blog with all sorts of inspiring tidbits. P.P.S. I know we have only just embarked on winter wear, but I love the what's going on with their Spring 2011 collection especially the Oshkosh b'gosh comeback!

Connan Mockasin
Cannot get enough of 70's sounding Connan Mockasin. Just saw his fantastical music video for It's Choade My Dear, soooo good. Still haven't released his album in the US, hopefully it will be soon because this is going to be a good tune to take a lazy walk to in the crazy streets of New York!

Baldessari at The Met
Cannot wait to go see the John Baldessari exhibition at The Met! It's on my weekend must do list. "Baldessari (b. 1931, National City, California) turned from an early career in painting toward photographic images that he combined with text, using the freeways, billboards, and strip malls of Southern California as his frequent sources. In his groundbreaking work of the late 1960s, he transferred snapshots of banal locales around his hometown onto photo-sensitized canvases and hired a sign painter to label them with their locations or excerpts from how-to books on photography."
