Shoe Du Jour

A girl can dream. If only I HAD a shoe closet in my tiny NYC apartment! It sure wouldnt hurt to land those Alex Wang cheetahs on my feet either. Today's Shoe Du Jour is about the shoe closet, sometimes happiness (in fashion la la land) is just gazing at a well edited shoe closet. Sigh.....Id like to be in her shoes, literally.

The Coveted

I tend to follow a dressing mantra of simple is, simple does. I like effortless pieces, always with an ease of comfort at the top of my dressing list.....
Never a slave to conformity, the always inspiring Jennine of The (real) Coveted (and fellow Nolita neighborhood friend - she posted on me here!) constantly experiments with shapes, colors, old, new - you name it, The Coveted has tried and true every color combo, printed equation in the book! I love the eclectic mix in her above weekend outfit, quite the stylish lady who looks all the more comfortable and chic on a perfect summer NYC day.

Shoe Du Jour

Despite these gray clouds, I'm hopeful for summer shoes. For the second summer in a row, I rely on my No. 6 (home to THE shearling clogs and sandals) black 3 strap clog sandals that I picked up at No. 6's sample sale last summer. These are pretty much a timeless pair of sandals that I continue to strut day and night (and I am not a "day heel" wearing kinda gal) that just seem to make my wardrobe a bit more chic without the effort. It doesn't help living kiddie corner from their shop, because it makes the temptations too much to handle visits on a regular basis, but I couldn't be happier with the investment made on my sandals. Now only if I can justify the booties when the temperature starts to fall. Bird in Brooklyn also has a great selection of drool worthy No. 6'ers right now....

Radio Lives On!!! My tribute to Tim Sweeney

Anyone who knows me lately knows I am obsessed with Tim Sweeney's radio show called Beats in Space. It comes out every Tuesday night and I love it and I met the man himself the other night and someone told him I was his biggest fan and I got really shy and giggled... My tribute post to TIM:

(he was so nice in person btw)

(how hot is DJ Wolfram, who knew??)

(loves those Nords, Tretmolller was one of my fave BIS podcasts)

(not very women DJs on the show, this chic and Kim Ann Fox ruled it though)

(I meannnnnn.... love this)

DIY Assad Mounser Necklace

1) Inspiration: Assad Mounser Rambler Long Necklace

2) Getting started. Workspace on a plate!

3) Making progress!

4) Voila!!
A rainy gray day makes for the best DIY afternoon. Inspired by Assad Mounser's Rambler necklace I decided to take my stock pile of beads, gems, vintage chains, and blue agate chainless charm that I picked up from a thrift store a few years ago - to make my own Assad Mounser'ish necklace! Honestly, this took me about an hour...pretty simple because I already had all the supplies. Luckily I've been collecting quite an assortment over the years of old chains, random beads, charms...which come in handy when I'm craving some craft! The rambler necklace retails for about $270, this probably cost me a total of $20. A little rain and a lot of inspiration from Assad Mounser goes a long way, I have more crafting ideas for another jewelry project....

Shoe Du Jour

Nothing says summer like a good espadrille. "The term espadrille is French and derives from the Catalan name for the shoes, espardenya, which derives from espart, the Catalan name for esparto, a tough, wiry Mediterranean grass used in making rope. Espadrilles have been made in Catalonia since the 14th century at least" (Wikipedia). In English? Espadrilles are the original classic shoe, and its a summer wardrobe must! While I love my canvas classic pairs from France ($8 Euro's a pop!), loving the modern twist with leather on this once considered peasant footwear! While $178 is a bit out of my budget for a summer staple, a girl can dream of chic footwear ! Get them at Les Nouvelles!

Summertime Read: An Object of Beauty

Since I have a random day off and it is currently 90 degrees and rising, there is nothing to do but sweat and read. 20 pages in to this book by the hilarious ex-SNL master about a young girl in the art world. All too relatable to my life and, btw, who doesn't love Steve Martin?

So far soooooo good...

Dead Fleurette

Pretty much obsessed with this gem of a well edited and written blog by a 19 year old Norwegian who is a "self-proclaimed gamine with a burning penchant for French designers and aesthetic, simplicity, beautiful workmanships, timeless clothes, statement jackets, an effortless approach to dressing, and natural fabrics." You said it sister!!! I think her photo's pretty much sum up exactly what I'm feeling right now.

Summer White

Every once in a while, on a random wander into H&M with no particular mission in mind other than stocking up on some cheap $5 tanks and maybe a spur of the moment trendy frock that I will wear once....I find a little hidden gem that has qualities beyond the factory made H&M design. This white blazer I found in a random corner, only 2 sizes left. This blazer is so light and airy, some sort of cotton blend with all the right structure and seamless looseness that looks more Helmut Lang than H&M. I was slightly apprehensive on the shoulder pads, but after one wear to work I decided that it lends a slight Balmanian shape, just the right amount of easy structure I like. Honestly, this is one of the best purchases I have made - cheap store or not - this blazer has longevity beyond summer. So here goes my first geeky outfit post....grainy pic captures my late night dinner in the LES with Alexandra...Oh I love summer nights.
Wearing: H&M Blazer, old H&M t-shirt, Topshop jeans, Swedish Hasbeen for H&M clogs, Rebecca Minkoff bucket Bag.
